The Bangladeshi government has take a new appointed to made Rear Admiral Md. Farid Habib new Chief of
Naval Staff. they also upgrading his rank as Vice Admiral of Naval Staff. This appointed will be effect from 28 January 2013. This The Defence Ministry issued a notification by a press release of the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) b'cos of the current Navy chief Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed will go on retirement on that day.
Habib was born in 1959 in Kalihati Upazila of Tangail. He was commissioned in Bangladesh Navy in 1979.
Farid Habib joined the Bangladesh Navy as an officer cadet on 08 July 1976. He attended International Midshipman Course in Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, UK in 1977.
Later, he was commissioned in the Executive Branch in BN on 01 January 1979. He
attended various courses both at home and abroad. He attended Short
Navigation Course in Australia in 1983, Navigation & Direction
Course in Pakistan in 1985, Missile Course under Chinese Experts in
1986, Command and Staff Course at Mirpur, Dhaka in 1989, Naval Staff
Course at Newport, USA in 1991, Base Mine Sweeper Course in China in
1994, Joint Warfare Course in UK in 1999, Sea Safety Training Course in
UK in 2002, and National Defence Course at Dhaka in 2006. He did Masters
in Defence Studies under National University, Gazipur in 2004.
Besides, he served
at Naval Headquarters as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel),
Director of Naval Operations, Director of Naval Plans, Director of
Signals, Director of Naval Armament Inspection and Supply, Naval
Secretary and Judge Advocate General.
He also served as Director of Plans in Bangladesh Coast Guard.
He also held the top command positions which includes Commodore
Commanding BN Flotilla (COMBAN), Commodore Commanding Khulna (COMKHUL)
and Naval Administrative Authority, Dhaka.
